Students and teachers can create various portfolio projects for the classroom. There are many different types of classroom portfolios that can be created either by students or by educators. A student classroom portfolio is a collection of works created over a given period of time for one particular subject area. A teacher portfolio is a collection of various student works over a given period of time on a particular subject matter. Types of portfolio projects being created depend on the subject being taught.
Over the course of a semester, or perhaps even the year, students in an art class create projects for a grade or as a part of in class participation. Have students hold on to their drawings, paintings, sketches or other designs and place them in a large folder or binder. This will teach the students to hold onto their materials over a long period of time and to take care of the project and keep it in the best possible condition.
There are various ways to put together portfolios on the topic of history, especially as it is such a broad topic. One example, especially for younger students, is to have them put together portfolios on a specific time period. Students can break the portfolio into various categories.
Whether designing a portfolio for younger students or high school students, a portfolio can be put toward a specific scientific idea or overall theme. A portfolio for younger students could be based on a specific class of animals, such as reptiles or mammals. Within the portfolio, the students would provide photographs or drawings of examples of those types of animals and a description on each one, including what they eat, how they sleep and where they live.
For older students, an example of a science portfolio could be based on a specific scientific thought, such as Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Within the portfolio, students would have to define the theory and also provide specific examples of how the theory operates.
